David McInnis in the News: Market Anxiety is Running High. How to Secure Your Retirement Portfolio

Retirement planning always involves peering into a crystal ball, but the outlook seems murkier than ever.

The stock market has made a head-spinning round trip, recouping the nearly 20% losses that followed President Donald Trump’s “Liberation Day” tariff announcement on April 2. But the policy uncertainty that fueled the gyrations remains, along with larger questions about America’s changing role in the world and what that means for investors........

While the classic 60/40 portfolio of stocks and bonds has many fans, a growing number of advisors recommend throwing in alternatives for uncorrelated returns. David McInnis, managing partner at Aristia Wealth Management in Alpharetta, Ga., suggests a 60/30/10 split, with 10% in alternatives like market-neutral and long-short funds and private credit. Some names to consider are AQR Style Premia Alternative fund and BlackRock Systemic Multi-Strategy These are high-fee mutual funds, perhaps best suited for skittish investors; while they may be good at holding up when stocks fizzle, keep in mind their long-term returns aren’t close to U.S. equities.
